What versions of the printing packages are available in RHEL?

- Is CUPS v 1.x supported in my version of the Red Hat Enterprise Linux operating system ?
- What CUPS packages are available for use and support with Red Hat Enterprise Linux ?
- Is there a way to get a more up-to-date version of CUPS available to be installed via the satellite and yum ?
- When will the next supported update to CUPS be available?
- Currently, the Red Hat site is listing
cups-1.4.2-50
as the latest supported version of CUPS. The cups.org website has a current release ofcups-1.7.1
, When is Red Hat scheduling to support this release? - Our current version of CUPS is 1.4.2 on RHEL. The latest CUPS release is actually 2.2. Our question is, does RHEL support the latest CUPS release?
- Printer requires a driver from the hplip package
- Need to know what version of hplip is installed, and what to do if printer is not compatible
