While starting 'autofs', the message "couldn't locate nis+ table auto.master" gets logged even though NIS+ is not used in the environment, why ?

Issue

  • When autofs service is started, the following message is logged even though NIS+ is not used.
automount[3791]: lookup_read_master: lookup(nisplus): couldn't locate nis+ table auto.master

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 5
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • Not using NIS+
