Can sendmail be used without DNS?

  • How to use sendmail without DNS?
  • Can I setup sendmail to forward outgoing mails to a different system (smarthost), without having DNS available?

  • Emails are getting queued under /var/spool/clientmqueue and the following can be seen in /var/log/maillog:

    May 11 03:34:15 hostname sendmail[16370]: XXXXXXXXXXXXX: to=user@example.com, delay=00:01:09, mailer=esmtp, pri=30348, dsn=4.4.3, stat=queued
