Red Hat Quay Support Policy

Overview

Red Hat offers services for each major release of Red Hat Quay with designated support policies. This article outlines the support policies relevant to Red Hat Quay applicable to a base entitlement.

Details

Red Hat Quay will be supported subject to the Red Hat Production Scope of Coverage, Service Level Agreement and Red Hat Quay Life Cycle.

In practice, this means that Red Hat will assist a customer with the setup and administration of Red Hat Quay, including its deployment and configuration as well as other documented administrative-type tasks. At this time, Red Hat does not offer Development Support for Red Hat Quay.

Red Hat Multi-Cloud Object Gateway Support Policy

As part of running Red Hat Quay on Red Hat OpenShift Container platform via the Quay Operator, a subsystem of the Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundations (formerly known as Red Hat OpenShift Container Storage) product can be used to provide an object storage interface for Quay. On clusters where Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundations is not available, the Multi-Cloud Object Gateway component (upstream known as NooBaa) is entitled to be installed and used according to the procedure outlined in the Quay Operator documentation. The usage of this component is limited to Quay instances running on the same OpenShift cluster in conjunction with local, Kubernetes-based backend storage for the Multi-Cloud Object Gateway. Usage of this subsystem with other backend storage or with other consumers than Quay is not supported.

Third-Party Hardware and Software Policy

The Red Hat Quay product relies on storage, database and database cache as external components to operate properly. Included in a Red Hat Quay support entitlement, Red Hat provides support for the Postgres and Redis databases from the Red Hat Software Collections, and NooBaa Storage Gateway from the Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundation components when orchestrated by the Quay Operator, exclusively for the Quay deployment. Alternatively, customers also have the flexibility to choose from other Red Hat offerings (like Red Hat OpenShift Data Foundations) or third-party technologies which are best suited to their deployment architecture, availability requirements or established infrastructure. Red Hat Quay interoperates with a wide range of technologies which are outlined in the product documentation. In addition to this, Red Hat publishes a Tested Configurations Matrix.

Red Hat provides support for a Red Hat Quay deployment using these components. However, Red Hat does not provide direct support for components when sourced from third-party vendors. Using third party components not explicitly covered in the Tested Configuration matrix does not render your Quay deployment unsupported, but the scope is reduced to the Red Hat components. As such, in order to isolate issues, Red Hat will assist customers with problem analysis, to determine if the issue is related to third-party components and may ask to reproduce a problem without the third party component. More information can be found in the Red Hat third-party support policy.

Red Hat Quay Container Support Policy

Red Hat Quay ships as Container Images. Red Hat provides the software required to run these containers, either on a standalone host using Red Hat Enterprise Linux, or as part of an orchestrated stack on Red Hat OpenShift.

Red Hat Quay is tested, qualified, and supported exclusively on a Red Hat container stack. Use of Red Hat Quay on a non-Red Hat container stack is an unsupported configuration. Compatibility testing of alternative container runtimes or distributions is not carried out by Red Hat. Per the third-party hardware and software policy, Red Hat provides commercially-reasonable support to isolate issues. For scenarios where it is suspected that issues are caused by the use of uncertified components in the container stack, customers will be expected to open a case with any other relevant vendors directly. More information can be found in the container support policy and the third-party support policy.
