After updating to RHEL8.1 EIO errors with cifs signing "CIFS VFS: SMB signature verification returned error = -5"
Issue
- The following errors appear in the system log many times when running RHEL8.1 (4.18.0-147.el8) kernel indicating EIO (-5) error with SMB signature verification
CIFS VFS: SMB signature verification returned error = -5
- Note this is a different problem than EACCESS / permission denied errors, SMB signature verification returned error = -13
Environment
- Red Hat Enterprise Linux 8.1
- cifs with signing enabled
- same file being read by multiple processes at the same time
