How to increase "dbus-daemon" resource limits ?

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • On RHEL6 system, there is a limitation that the maximum number of open file descriptors for the dbus-daemon --session process is set to a value of 1024.

  • This is not enough for systems where users execute many gnome sessions(approximately 55 concurrent plus a few user applications in each gnome session).

  • In above case the dbus-daemon easily hits its 1024 file descriptor limit. This results in dbus-daemon consuming 100% processor and requiring a reboot of the machine to recover.

  • Is there any method to increase dbus-daemon resource limits ?

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6
  • dbus-daemon
