Explanation of iSCSI

iSCSI (internet Small Computer System Interface) provides block-level storage over IP networks. iSCSI is popular for making use of storage pools within server virtualization.

How the iSCSI Helper Tool Works
  • The iSCSI Helper Tool leads you through a series of steps to help you configure your iSCSI target (server) or initiator (client).
  • When you complete all the steps, this tool generates a script based on the information you have entered.
  • Run this script to prepare the system for its defined role as an iSCSI target (server) or initiator (client).

Note:
The iSCSI Helper Tool allows for the differences in configuration for all modern Red Hat® Enterprise Linux versions.

Features of the iSCSI Helper Tool
  • You can specify either single or multiple targets for the iSCSI target to create with single or multiple luns.
  • You can specify single or multiple targets for the iSCSI initiator.
  • This tool also supports ACL control and CHAP authentication.
