Resolution

As of October 24, 2023, software maintenance of the docker package in Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7 Extras channel will end. The docker packages will not be removed from the RHEL 7 Extras repository, but no additional software maintenance is planned after this date. The docker component has been replaced by Podman v1.6.4 in RHEL 7 Extras, and Podman v4.x in RHEL 8 and RHEL 9 which provide similar functionality. After this end of maintenance date, technical support for docker issues will continue to be available, but no security or bug fixes will be made available.

Is a docker containerized environment supported in RHEL 7?

Yes. Red Hat supports all docker-formatted container images that Red Hat ships.
For docker-formatted container images in the community that are based on other free Linux distributions (which customers may have used to build their based images), Red Hat does not support the content of the images themselves.

What is the support policy for containers on RHEL 7?

Please see the Red Hat Container Support Policy for detailed information on how Red Hat supports container engines/runtimes in RHEL.
