Red Hat Enterprise Linux Extras Product Life Cycle

Overview

Red Hat is introducing a new channel in the Red Hat Customer Portal for Red Hat Enterprise Linux called “Extras.” The Extras channel is intended to give customers access to select, rapidly evolving technologies. These technologies may be updated more frequently than they would otherwise be in a Red Hat Enterprise Linux minor release. The technologies delivered in the Extras channel are fully supported.

Over time, these technologies will continue to mature and stabilize and may eventually be added to the Red Hat Enterprise Linux channel to which the Red Hat Enterprise Linux life-cycle policies apply.

Details

Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 and 7 each have an Extras channel. The content of the Extras channel may vary depending on which Red Hat Enterprise Linux major versions the channel is associated with.

Packages will be updated as necessary to incorporate enhancements or bug fix or security errata advisories. The contents of the Extras channel are exempt from Red Hat's policy that commits to binary compatibility. See the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Application Compatibility Policies for details about this binary compatibility policy.

Releases and Support

  • Technology delivered through Red Hat Enterprise Linux Extras will be updated at a much greater frequency than through Red Hat Enterprise Linux itself.
  • For software delivered in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Extras channels, updated packages containing security fixes, bug fixes, or feature enhancements may be delivered as they become available.
  • Neither Extended Update Support (EUS) nor the Extended Life Support (ELS) Add-Ons are supported for Red Hat Enterprise Linux Extras.
  • The content in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Extras channel may differ for each supported version of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.
  • The content in the Red Hat Enterprise Linux Extras channel may vary over the life of a major release.
