Thread Dump at ESX level for redhat VM.

Latest response

Hello Team,

Need to know whether in certain scenarios, is it possible for Redhat to analyse collected thread dump for VM from the esx .

Scenario:
case1: Vm not not accessible on the network and
2: Hung - not even taking magic key combination for triggering coredump.

If we collected the thread dump on the ESX host for that VM process, will RedHat able to analyse and provide us the root cause ?

Regards,
Ali.

Hi Ali. Hopefully the community can answer this one for you, but otherwise, don't hesitate to contact Red Hat Support and ask!

Unfortunately, we don't have any knowledge on what an ESX thread dump would look like, nor do we have the ESX source to dive into it if we wished to analyze it. An ESX hypervisor's thread dump should go to VMWare support.

We're happy to look into a hanging virtual guest running RHEL, although usually a lack of response to SysRq does indicate a problem with the hardware platform, which in this case would be the "hardware" which the hypervisor layer presents to the VM.
