Copy NFS v4 ACL between two volumes

Latest response

Hi ,

Is there any way to copy NFS v4 ACL permissions.

I'm aware that cp -cp doesn't handle NFSv4 ACL , I tried the rsync --acls and didn't work.
I wonder if there is a low level or any utility that allows to clone or copy NFS v4 ACL .

Thank you

Hi Marcello - what type of device is hosting the NFS share? The reason I ask is I thought with some of them the security was managed on the device itself - like NetApp where you select CIFS vs NFS vs Hybrid and provided a security source to validated access. Did you specifically add acls to the mount options also?

I see recommendations to use:

 cp --preserve

http://unix.stackexchange.com/questions/101096/acl-defaults-not-being-obeyed-on-copy-over-nfs
http://www.linux-nfs.org/wiki/index.php/ACLs

I'm using Netapp FAS2240-R5 for my NFS share.
I'm using NFS v4 for this particular volume and I'm using RH IPA server for my acls .

In any case I have found this article https://access.redhat.com/site/solutions/115043

using cp --preserve=xattr works for me now.

Thank you for your useful insight.

Marcello
