  • Install on 3ware RAID card

    Posted on

I am having trouble with an install of redhat 8.7 (I need that to run Oracle).

We have a 3ware RAID card. I was able to install using an RHEL 8.7 install USB and a Driver Update Disk (DUD) that was made from this ISO :

    https://elrepo.org/linux/dud/el8/x86_64/dd-3w-sas-3.26.02.000-8.el8_7.elrepo.iso

So, with two USBs in the machine, one being the RHEL 8.7 install and one being that ISO DUD, I can install RHEL and register for updates. (Without the DUD, no disks show up to install to).

The problem is, the first thing I do is to run "yum upgrade" which installs a new kernel, and then the system hangs on boot. I can still boot to the earlier kernel, but attempts to boot to the new kernel fail.

The kernel that we upgraded to after install that won't boot is :
    4.18.0-425.19.2.el8_7.x86_64
The kernel that we upgraded from, ie from the install media, is :
    4.18.0-425.3.1.el8.x86_64

I realize the problem is essentially that support for that hardware has been dropped. I'm wondering if anyone has any experience with this that may be useful.

    Thanks!
