Creating Customize Resource Pool ?

Latest response

Respected Sir,

I want the following feature resource pool management which is available in VMWARE ESX

but dont know how to implement in Redhat Enterpirse virtulization enviroment

suposse i have 3 hypervisor host rhev-h and each have 16 GB ram

i want to create a resource pool in such a way that 16 + 16 + 16 = 48 GB RAM

and need to cutomize the resource pool and assigned one host that it should use 32 GB RAM by managing resource pool

so actually the available ram is 16 GB on host but it has to go exclusivly  using upto 32 GB from remaing host

How can i achieved this in Redhat Enterprise virtulization and i want my resources to manage manually

Hi Pratik,

This is indeed a good feature that we are lacking as of now. So I will recommened you to open a service request with Red Hat Technical Support so that they can work on this feature request.

Thanks,

Uday

How to open service request with redhat

You can follow the below link to open the service request:

I am not aware of any virtualization solution that can have a virtual machine that spans multiple hosts.  DRS resource pools are load management abstractions that equate to Clusters in RHEV.  Buried in the DRS docs, you will find the following info on how a VM gets placed once started in a resource pool (emphasis mine):

"VirtualCenter checks whether there's a host in the cluster that has enough resources for powering on the virtual machine. This must be a single host. It's not enough that two hosts jointly have sufficient resources. If there are not sufficient resources, a message appears."

By looking at the cluster resources as a total aggregate, you a facing potential overcommit issues or failures to start VMs b/c of resource constraints.

Actively accessing memory from an alternate host would require network interconnects with speeds and latencies that generally aren't available at practical levels.  I wouldn't expect to see this in a viable format for a while.
