Using Clonezilla to migrate physical server to RHEV virtual machine

Latest response

Hi guys,

I am trying to migrate one of my servers from physical to virtual and I wanted to try Clonezilla for this purpose. I tested it with an Ubuntu box and it worked perfectly! Now I tried doing the same with a Windows Server 2003 box, but I cannot boot into the OS. The restore process goes fine, Windows starts the booting process but the Widows Server 2003 screen shows for about one second and then I get the BSOD (I googled it and it looks like it is disk related). Now, I used IDE interface as a disk type when creating a new disk. the main thing is that I don't know how to enter BIOS in my virtual machine - is this possible at all? Can we access BIOS of the virtual machine at all? Does anyone have any other suggestions?

You should relly look at virt-v2v, I think it's only supported way to to import physical server to RHEV / KVM

You will need (among other things) virt-p2v ISO here is the link:

Great advice Stefan, and thanks for including those links.
