Qlogic drivers in Red Hat 6 - Don't Load at Startup

Latest response

Hello experts,

We are new to RHEL 6 (using v6.2).  For whatever reason the qla2xxx module does not show up on lsmod output at bootup unless we manually type 'modprobe -v qla2xxx'.  The README file with the driver has instruction for initrd and not initramfs.  Has anyone had experience with this?  As mentioned I'm new to V6 and initramfs.  Never had any issues in RHEL 5.

Thank you!

Ilya

Don't have a suitable rig to test on, but probably need to reference it in the /etc/initramfs-tools/modules file and re-run your `mkinitramfs`.

Look in /etc/modprobe.d/* for any file|entry attempting to blacklist the qla2xxx module and also in grub.conf for rdblacklist=qla2xxx.

Rebuild initramfs and use the --add-drivers to include the module:
# cd /boot
# cp initramfs-$(uname -r).img initramfs-$(uname -r).img.BAK
# dracut -v -f  --add-drivers qla2xxx initramfs-$(uname -r).img $(uname -r)

Reboot and the module should be auto-loaded.
