Ansible in a secure environment- run as non-root

Ansible newbie here. I work in a secure environment where one of the requirements is that you cannot SSH into a system as a root user. In knowing that Ansible uses SSH is running as a non-root user possible? I have read that it is but I need a little more of an explanation. I am thinking we are talking about privilege escalation.
