Cannot install Fedora Core 15 or 17 Guest on RHEVM 6.3 / RHEVH 3.1 Beta
I've not been able to install either Fedora Core 15 or 17 on my new RHEVManager 6.3 / RHEVH 3.1 Beta setup.
I've successfully installed:
- Ubuntu 12
- Windows 7
- Windows XP
- Centos 6.3
When I start the VM with either of the Fedora Install CDs, it starts booting the CD and then goes to a blank screen.
Any ideas?
VM is defined as 1GB RAM/20GB DISK thin provisioned, SINGLE CPU.
I tried upping to 2GB RAM, made no difference.
Thanks,
James

Hi James,
Eventhough you would be able to install other linux distributions in RHEV, only RHEL and Windows VMs are officially tested and supported. Please check the following URL:
https://access.redhat.com/knowledge/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/3.1-Beta/html/Administration_Guide/Supported_virtual_machines.html
Having said that, can you check if you can start the VM using a different console than the one configured. For example, instead of spice try VNC. Also what is the status of the VM in RHEV Manager.
Thanks,
Anil
Hi James,
The point is that if its not a supported OS, we have limitations to debug it in detail.
However I tried to reproduce the problem from my side and was not reproduciable. I could install F17, on RHEV3.1. Following are my environment details,
- rhevm-3.1.0-26.el6ev.noarch
- Red Hat Enterprise Virtualization Hypervisor release 6.3 (20121107.0.el6_3)
- Fedora-17-x86_64-DVD.iso
- 2G RAM
Have you able to see the Fedora welcome screen displaying "Install or Upgrade Fedora". If yes, try text mode installation instead of gui
Can you please try a different spin of Fedora. Ex: http://spins.fedoraproject.org/xfce/
Thanks,
Anil
