Query about Windows guest support for RHEV-H v3....

Latest response

For RHEV-H v3.0, based on the http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/Red_Hat_Enterprise_Virtualization/3.0/html/Hypervisor_Deployment_Guide/References_RHEV_2.3_Supported_Guests_Extended.html ,

it seems that W2K8 R2 (x64) is supported. But in the next section on that page with the heading "Para-virtualized driver support", for Windows 2008, it states support for Windows Server 2008 (32 bit and 64 bit) -- it does NOT list "R2" for para-virt drivers.

So, I have following queries:

1) Is W2K8 R2 (x64) is supported with para-virt drivers?

2) Is W2K8 R2 SP1 (x64) is supported with para-virt drivers ?

Does RH distinguish W2K8, W2K8 R2, W2K8 R2 SP1 from support stand-point ?

Similar query for Windows 2003 as well.

What is the official support stand of RH ?

Hope someone @RH can clarify.

Does anyone have any clues/pointers or any info about this one ?

Windows 2008 R2 and Windows 2008 x64 can use the same drivers.

The supported guest list is right there at the link you provided.

As for SP level support, I will need to verify this, but the general recommendation is to stay up to date.

Hi Dan,

Thanks for the confirmation on para-virt driver support. Will await response on the SP levels (for w2k8 and w2k3).

As I understand, the supported SP level is mentioned only where it is relevant (like you can see for WinXP), everywhere else, any SP will work.

I do however have to say that the major QA testing is done on updated systems, so if you have the possibility of staying up to date, you are better off staying up to date.
