I am new to RHEV 3.0. I have followed these instructions to install the RHEV:

1. Install the RHEL 6.2.

2. Register with RHN.

3. Also registered with "rhn-channel -v -u "Mylogin" -a -c rhel-x86_64-server-6-beta -c rhel-x86_64-server-6-rhevm-3-beta -c rhel-x86_64-server-6-rhevm-3-jboss-5-beta -c rhel-x86_64-server-supplementary-6-beta -c rhel-x86_64-server-supplementary-6

4. I have runned the yum update and installed the updates.

5. Install using "yum install rhevm".

6. Next executed the "rhev-setup" and configured as per the general document.

7. Also, the services and database are installed & configured as the document.

I got this screen too:

I am able to open the "http://manager.demo.redhat.com:8080", when I try to click on the any links in this web site, then I am getting "HTTP Status 404 - ".

For example if, I click on Administrator Portal, then I am receiving following message:

"HTTP Status 404 - Administrator Portal"

Actually, I have tried the same setup on the Virtual Machine I was successful, but when I am trying to do the same setup on the Bare Metal system (Dell System) I am experiencing this issue.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hello Surendar,

It looks like the client system is trying to access services that are not there. What is the exact URL you are accessing, and what is the URL the links at the landing page point you to?

Are those URLs resolveable by the client system?

Are the ports accessible?

Is there any proxy or firewall between the RHEV-Manager host and the client machine?

Are there any other differences between the working RHEV-M VM and the physical machine?

Thanks,

Dan

JBoss Web/2.1.12.GA-patch-01

Till here is bare metal OS (Dell System)

Coming to VM - issue:

now, I am able to open

http://rhel6.example.com:8080/RHEVManager/WPFClient.xbap

but, unable to open using https and port 8443 ie., "https://rhel6.example.com:8443/RHEVManager/WPFClient.xbap"

it says : An error occurred in the application you were using

Restart the application
when I click on more information, it says "Security certificate required to access this resource is invalid."

Regards,
Surendar Bangaru

First of all, RHEV uses a self-signed certificate, and you need to accept it.

Second, what browser are you using? To access the WPFclient.xbap client, you need a windows workstation, with IE and .net installed

Third, Are you able to access the admin GUI using port 8080? If so, it is safe enough to use until the other issues are resolved - the actual communications are encrypted with SSL anyway, and plain http is only used to download the .xbap file, nothing else.

I have same symptom...

plz check jbossas log.

My understanding is check your DNS, If it is not a issue of DNS, will request you to point your IP adress an to browser addressbar. If possible flush Iptables as well. Or else you can try with https://IP:8080.

It seems your installation is has been copleted successfully. You can try above issues. Please let us know, where was the probem if it is already solved.

Thanks,

Shyfur

More than DNS, not IP-Tables.  I have the same issue, or very close to it.  JBoss does not cleanly stop or always start.  About 50% of the time, I have to stop JBoss, clean up the orphaned lock file, for the dead pid reference on stop of JBoss because JBoss seems to not stop cleanly, and start JBoss explicitly.  I have already documented and reported this to RH.  Since Beta 1, I have randomly seen this issue, where RHEV-M just never wakes up.  We shutdown our lab each night, so we startup our RHEV-M instance each morning, just in the last week or so, 4 out of the last 7 days, JBoss has not stopped clean or started clean.  So each time, I have to stop JBoss, clean up orphaned lock file, and start JBoss... and presto-change-o RHEV-M appears in the browser as expected.  No changes to DNS, no changels to the environment, the issue is RHEV-M does not start clean.  Unless we do this, we get the classic 404 error in IE.

I have followed these instructions, but no luck:

1. service jbossas stop    - to stop    (/etc/init.d/jbossas stop)

2. service jbossas start    - to start.   (/etc/init.d/jbossas start)

If I am wrong please guide me

Kindly let me know how to clean up the orphaned lock file.

The fact that you are getting a status code of 400 is a good indication that JBoss is on-line.  As such, I wouldn't worry about pids and lock files.

However, if you really want to indepently verify that the RHEV-M web application is on-line then a good test is to poke the RHEV-M REST API.  To do this try the following:

1. Ensure that JBoss is started (i.e. service jbossas start  )

2. Run the following command:

wget -q -O - https://<your rhev-m server here>:8443/api/capabilities --no-check-certificate --user=<your user ID here e.g. admin\@internal> --password=<password here>

3. If you see any XML returned then your RHEV-M web application is probably healthy.

Finally, as Dan mentioned earlier, the problem you are experiencing is likely due to invalid certificates in IE.  Please follow the steps here to install the certificates that will allow the RHEV-M WPF application to operate successfully.

Cheers,

Keith

I have expereinced issues with SSL based connections when the systems were not using NTP.  The system I was using was accurate, but my server was off and that created strange errors.

I also add my RHEV Manager URL to the Trusted Sites in I.E.

I believe if you connect via http://IP:8080 - it redirects to the hostname.  That might simply be a "feature" of I.E. doing the population of the hostname in the URL on my behalf, but I think it's a server-side thing doing it.  DNS (or a substitute) is fairly paramount for this product to work.

Also - when I first quickly glanced through the docs, I had not noticed the Certificate applet indicating where the certificates had to go.. and I just started clicking away.  This, of course, did not work ;-)  The certificates have to be install in Trusted Root Certificates for I.E. (not the default location that it chooses).

You're right, RHEV-M rewrites the URL with an FQDN. It generally relies heavily on functional DNS and Kerberos/SSL, so failures in name resolution and SRV record resolution (when using AD/IPA) and failures to adhere to Kerberos' and SSL's requirements wrt time differences can pose an issue.

On the other hand, this makes the system very secure and integrates it nicely with local DCs, CAs and Kerberos

I've been recieving the same 404 errors when trying to access the portal after a successul installation.

From the system upon which the RHEV manager is installed, do the following:

nslookup <fqdn of the rhev manager>

From the system that you are trying to access the RHEV web UI from, do the following:

nslookup <fqdn of the rhev manager>

Do the IP addreses that were returned match?

I've been recieving the same 404 errors when trying to access the portal after a successul installation.

HTTP Status 404 - /RHEVManager

Issue Resolved: Reinstalled the OS and rinsed and repeated the installation procedure for rhevm.

No need to reinstall the OS - you could have run rhevm-cleanup and then rhevm-setup again. But I'm glad it works for you now

I have been experiencing the same behavior.  I installed RHEL in a vm running on ESXi, downloaded the neccesary packages and went through the rhevm-setup, which completed successfully.  However when trying to access the https://rhevm-manage.domain.com:8443/RHEVManager page I get

HTTP Status 404 -/RHEVManager

type status report

message /RHEVManager

description The requested resource (/RHEVManager) is not available

JBoss Web/2.1.12.GA-patch-03

In accordance with this forum and some others, here are some things I have tried, which have not worked

- add the ip and FQDN into the /etc/hosts file

- I have stopped jboss, killed any deadlocked processes then restarted it

- I have cleaned the setup restarted the vm (to makes sure jboss is completely dead) and then ran through the setup again

- Used multiple windows os versions as portals (2008 R2, XP)

- Ran on a bare metal server via usb stick, where I recieved the same error

- I have tried to call the rhev-m rest api to see if the application is operational, here is the general form fo the command wget -q -O - https://<your rhev-m server here>:8443/api/capabilities --no-check-certificate --user=<your user ID here e.g. admin\@internal> --password=<password here> however no XML was returned to me.

- This obviously leads me to believe that the rhev-m must either not be correctly configured (despite the succesful configuration) or some service I am not aware of is not running.

Any Ideas

Hi Mike,

It looks like you've gone through the standard set of quick fixes for this issue (which stopped being common quite some time ago) and I think you are seeing some new issue or something specific to your setup.

To get to the bottom of this, we'd have to investigate this deeper. Please open a support case, provide this information and the installation logs as well as a sosreport.

Ok will do, thanks for the quick response.

Hey I have tried to create a new case however i have gotten the following error whenever i try to submit the case.  Is there a way to work around this?

btw, I have tried resubmitting multiple times.

Oops!

Something completely unexpected just occurred. This is probably our fault.

Rest assured -- action will be taken!

We've logged the error and will be addressing the problem. We very much apologize for the inconvenience.

Please click back and try again. If you keep getting this page, please contact Support for immediate assistance.

There are no technical issues with the portal, so I suggest you try to clean the browser cache and cookies, restart the browser and try again. If that also fails, please call in.

If you are going to use a "fake" domain, I would recommend not using one that actually exists. I, personally, use either blah.private or blah.local

Domain.com exists in the real world and perhaps is mkt resolving?

Good point, this is why all the MS courses talk about contoso.local

Also - another thing to validate is the NTP settings.  I have had bizarre SSL behavior when the clocks between my hosts were not sync'd.  I do most of my work in a lab, excluded from any real business infrastructure and as a result, I have learned the hard way how seemingly trivial isues cause catastrophic results.

Also there was an issue with TSC and VMware (I don't recall the specifics, but I did quickly find a link)

http://kb.vmware.com/selfservice/microsites/search.do?language=en_US&cmd=displayKC&externalId=1006113

I was seeing the same HTTP 404 issue...in my instance, it was iptables that was the cause.  Once I shutdown iptables, I was able to see the correct links/URLs and then login properly to the RHEV Manager Portal.

I saw a lot of connection timeout exceptions in the jboss server log (/var/log/jbossas/rhevm-slimmed/server.log) which led me to think that iptables was the culprit.  Also found the following document which addresses iptables and RHEVM:
