RHEV: impossible change of DNS Settings after coupling it with RHEVM

Latest response

Hello,

I'm evalutating rhev in my testing enviroment. I have dhcp serving this subnet. Dhcp only sends public DNS address, both rhev and rhevm uses private domain under another dns that i usually specify manually.

After having RHEV coupled with RHEVM, DNS settings are unchangeable both from the rhev console and rhevm . I'm only allowed to change IP mode (dhcp or static) and ip/netmask if using static.

Even using static addressing, it is impossible to change DNS settings.

Is there a way to get control of this field again?

Thanks

Hi Luca,

Can you please explain what exactly you are trying to change? Sounds like you want to change the FQDN of  the RHEV-Manager, but I'm not sure I undestand you correctly

Thanks,

Dan

Hi Dan,

the FQDN is ok, but is resolvable only through the internal DNS (which ip is not distributed with dhcp).

Practically:

1) First boot of rhve hypervisor: IP configuration got via dhcp. I had 8.8.8.8 (dns ip distributed by my dhcp). I added internal dns manually.

2) I coupled rhve with rhvem. From this point on, ip settings were available for change only through rhvem.

3) I rebooted rhve, dhcp set ip/mask and dns (only the public one). Now i'm unable to add my internal dns via rhve console nor via rhvem gui.

Thanks

OK, now I understand. The RHEV-Hypervisor network settings can be updated if you ssh into the host as admin. This will present you with a ncurses based menu, just go to the networking section, and update your DNS settings.

Hi Dan,

Thanks again for the answer.

I already tryed what you suggest but i'm unable to move to "DNS" with the tab key once the hypervisor is paired with rhevm.

Does it work if you go to the servers' physical console, instead of SSH?

----little english------

Luke says he can not change the configuration after making the connection to the hypervisor RHEV-M, right?

This happens to me with the Beta 3.0 and 6.2 hypervisors.

Solution reinstall the Hypervisor?

I solved it, I find it uncomfortable but effective.

Perhaps we should give the possibility to change the configuration from the console even after the registration RHEV-M

Hi,

I ran into the same problem.

Why am I not allowed to change networking config via direct access to rhev hypervisor after coupling with rhevm?

Even after removing hypervisor out of rhevm I am not able to change network config. The only way to solve it for me right now is a reinstallation of the hypervisor. This is really annoying. Please change it!

Regards

Oliver

Hi Oliver,

Sorry for the frustration.

Currently, there are 2 options for re-configuring RHEV-H after you have registered it with RHEV-M.

- You can re-install, as you mentioned.

- You can change the configuration through the RHEV-M interface.

Currently the RHEV-M interface doesn't support updates to the DNS servers.  An enhancement would need to be requested for this.

For making the changes from RHEV-H itself, you would also need to request an enhancement.  There are 2 options here:

- Have RHEV-M attempt to communicate the removal back to RHEV-H so that the configuration gets removed and/or an option in the RHEV-H TUI to reset RHEV-M configuration.

- Have a option in RHEV-H to wipe all configuration data.  This would be equivalent to a reinstall, but without having to actually re-install.

If you feel that these enhancements are important, please work with your support representative to formally request them.

Thank you Mauro, same problem here RHEV-M 3.0 RHEVH 6.2 , no way, that I can access the hypervisor console like I did before with the 2.2, and change the DNS settings.

It's very discomforting that I have to reinstall the all hypervisor.

Marcello

I reinstalled the Hypervisor and i was able to set the DNS this time .
