Will replaced motherboard boot UEFI installation?

I had an issue with one PC and i need to replace motherboard, will it boot my RHEL 8 installation?

Hi Aleksandar,

I assume the system will boot - relevant is what the EFI, the boot, and the root partition(s) on the disk contains ... just try it out. :)

I didn't educate myself enough about UEFI i thought it installs certain kind of firmware on motherboard's chip in order to boot an OS from disk. When i took out HDD which contains RHEL 8 installation after PC booted up i opened Boot Menu and it had RHEL showing up even without HDD installed. Of course when i pressed Enter nothing happened because HDD was not present.

Anyway when motherboard arrives i will try it out and report back in. Machine is Thinkpad X220 it had motherboard with i5 and i found working one with i7 cpu. I will post the results in day or two.

Everything went normal and intact, i had some warnings in dmesg because some chips are not the same but after second reboot everything is fine.
