satellite shows packages available, yum update doesn't

Latest response

Running satellite 5.8 on rhel 6.9
clients are rhel 6.9

I have a satellite server that shows packages available for the clients. When I ssh to client, and yum update,
Loaded plugins: product-id, refresh-packagekit, rhnplugin, search-disabled-repos, security,
: subscription-manager
This system is receiving updates from RHN Classic or RHN Satellite.
Setting up Update Process
No Packages marked for Update

No updates show to be available. From what I can tell, I have the channels needed, otherwise I don't know why satellite would show updates available, when it didn't before I synced the channels.
So, I assume it is something on the client end, but maybe satellite isn't serving updates?

Hi Jon,

In such a case execute these commands : sudo yum clean all | sudo rm -r /var/cache/yum | sudo yum update

Ah, thanks! I was trying the 1st and last command, but hadn't found the second in my searchings. That appears to have done it, at least so far on 1 client.

Thanks, Christian!

You're welcome, Jon ! :)

I'm having the same issue, but those commands don't help. any guidance?

if it helps, it's registered to a satellite 5 server. logging into the sat server shows a newer version of the package, but yum shows the current one is the newest.
