About end of public updates for Java 8

Latest response

Hello Redhat community,

I am currently interested on Java 8 SE release cycle and as I understood, there won't be anymore any public updates for Java 8 SE in 2019.

So my question is : How Java 8 SE RPM will be maintained in 2019? Does Red Hat plan to have internal Java maintainers or is someone aware about the OpenJDK project will do bugfixes and security fixes which will be backported on Red Hat RPM ?

Is there a roadmap for integrating new OpenJDK (9,10,11)... version in the next 7.x milestone ?

Thanks !

Hi Oliver,

Answers to your questions can be and will be only some kind of guessing - more or less - at this very moment. One possible
scenario might be that Red Hat may provide the latest stable OpenJDK 8 version and the next long term supported release
OpenJDK 11 in parallel. We will have to wait until the decision within the relevant team has been made and what the official
announcement will say ... :)
