CUDA and bumblebee RHEL 7 Workstation
Hello All
Since upgrading to RHEL Workstation 7.5 nvidia drivers have stopped working if i have my laptop set to "discrete only", an issue with gdm that hasn't been fixed yet, i have switched to lightdm in the past and upgraded to the mainline kernel from elrepo in the past to get around it but even the workarounds are a bit flaky now.
So ive switched back to hybrid graphics and done a fresh install, was wondering if anyone could advise any caveats or "gotchas" i may need to watch out for getting bumblebee and cuda to work for applications like blender for example.
or is there somewhere i can source the primus switch application to logout and login to switch between the cards ?, i know nouveau can do this out of the box with "DRI_PRIME1" option but unfortunately i need the proprietary drivers.
Sorry for the novel post but i just wanted to make sure i covered all bases.
Kind Regards
Ryan

Hi Ryan,
Currently switching between the graphics adapters is not supported. All existing "solutions" have to be considered being a "hack" or, to use a more friendly word, as a "workaround". The best way to use the NVIDIA graphics card with the proprietary drivers is to install them from RPM Fusion. Everything you have to know is described in the Howto/NVIDIA documentation. Optimus is supported out of the box and you alternatively can even boot the system with the open source nouveau drivers. How to do it is described in the article.

Christian
