Cannot run RHEL 7 from USB /dev/boot missing

Latest response

I'm having some issues trying to test my USB installer for RedHat Enterprise Linux Desktop Workstation. From the boot screen I selected Test RedHat and Install, but after a while I get hit with bunch of errors from dracut-initqueue saying it timed out repeatedly followed by /dev/boot is missing.

I have the DVD iso on the USB installer, assuming that's the right one to use, same as every other Linux installer that uses DVD in its name. I have never encountered such an error as this before and it's stupid error and that. Why am I having such issues with a usb installer that is missing a critical part as /dev/boot ??

How do I fix this issue?
Another thing is it says I should copy some text file to a USB so I can share it's details, but I can't even use the usual commands for seeing the USB storage device names with fdisk so I can copy it over.

For something that's highly regarded enterprise level systems, this doesn't even look it if it fails the simplest of things when running from a USB stick.

Hi Philip,

Please don't be so negative. :) The problem you are experiencing most certainly doesn't have anything to do with Red Hat. Please check with sha256sum if the downloaded .iso file is not damaged. Then create the USB media again, many tools don't work as expected. My recommendation is to create the RHEL installation media using either GNOME Disks or the (portable) Etcher tool. Another option would be to use Fedora Media Writer, which creates the media reliably. Run sudo dnf install mediawriter
on a current edition of fedora workstation, or ... download the .exe file, in case you are running a Windows operating system.

Christian
