virt-who reporting to 2 Satellites

Latest response

We have an instance of virt-who reporting to a satellite6 server using the rhsm_hostname stanza in the /etc/virt-who.d files.
Does anyone know if we can also add the sat_server stanza in the same file to enable the virt-who instance to send the same information to a Satellite5 server at the same time?

Satellite 5 does not work with virt-who. What are you looking to achieve?

Actually, it does work with virt-who as long as it's using Subscription Manager. From the man page of virt-who config -

sat_server Hostname, IP address or URL of the Satellite 5 server.

sat_username Username for authentication to the Satellite 5 server.

sat_password Password for authentication to the Satellite 5 server.

We will soon have a Sat6 server to administer RHEL6 and RHEL7 guests and a Sat5 server to administer our diminishing number of RHEL5 guests. We have 2 virt-who 'noddy' VM's reporting to Sat6 about the virtual infrastructure they reside on. The RHEL6/7 and RHEL5 guests share the virtual infrastructure, so I want to have 2 instances of virt-who reporting to both satellites, rather than standing up 2 more virt-who machines.

You are right. virt-who can report to Sat5.

Virt-who can be installed on the Satellite server instead of being on a separate VM. Sat6 can also manage RHEL 5 guests. Two Satellites are not necessary but if your choice, not a problem.
