RedHat evaluation versions

Latest response

Hi,

We have purhased in the past 2 RHEL 7 premium licenses.

We are planning of setting up a new Proof of Conecept project where we will scale the number of RHEL 7 machines to 13.

The organization has not yet purchased the RHEL 7 as it will go through approvals.

Is it possible for us to get RHEL 7 evaluation versions for 90 days while approval process is pending?

This will get us going with the Proof of Concept.

If yes, can you let me know what the process is to get evaluation versions and how long that last?

Fede,

Best regards,

Hello Frederico,

The number of days for evaluation is 30 days for x86 and x84_64 for IBM Power and IBM mainframe it is longer up-to 180 days.

If you have special needs look for the customer support telephone number of your Region under the link that looks like a globe.

Kind regards,

Jan Gerrit Kootstra

Hi Jan,

  1. Does that mean that we can download straightaway 30 days evaluation version?

  2. With the evaluation version we can update system packages without registration of subscription manager license? We can basically us it as a regular license but for 30 days. I would setup 4 evaluation machines and after that we get the licenses subscribe to the portal, correct?

Alvast bedankt voor jouw spoed feedback! Fede.

Hi Fede,

Please contact the localized customer support, for I do not know whether you are allowed to use multiple evaluation subscriptions. The link Sam provides seems to refer to a single deployment.

A single evaluation subscription you can activated via the download page. Most of the time it is a matter of minutes before it gets active. You need to use subscription manager to connect your server before being able to install or update Red Hat software.

Kind regards,

Jan Gerrit :) geen dank voor de snelle reactie :)

Red Hat offers true developers Red Hat Enterprise Linux for free if they meet certain requirements.

If your "proof in concept" fits the idea of development work, then you can have developer licenses for free. However, if these same systems become production, the proper thing to do at that time would be to acquire proper licenses/entitlements/support. See this link for specifics https://access.redhat.com/discussions/2460371

Hi Caffeinated! Is this the type of license one developer would get? Or Can we take that developer license to an R&D environment with an organization and deploy multiple builds for test purposes?

Fede.
