Oracle Java breaking GNOME VDI desktop on RHEL Workstation 7.3

Latest response

I'm managing a RHEV VDI workstation environment and we have a requirement to install Oracle Java. Oracle Java appears to install correctly with no issues but after installing it, the Gnome 3 interface comes up as a black screen and you can't get past this screen.

By default the RHEL workstations are using openjdk java. This one appears to have both 1.8 and 1.7 installed.

Anyone seen this before, and have a solution as to how to get Oracle Java and Gnome 3 to play nicely together?

Thanks

Paul

It is possible to have different versions of Java on the same machine. Alternatives tool will display the versions you have installed and allows you to change the default Java version.

/usr/sbin/alternatives --config java

Run the above before and after installing Oracle Java for comparison.
