Problem to install apps
Hi, I'm Imran new user of Red Hat OS. I have a question to install an app. I can't install .tar.xz type file. Please help me, how can I install .tar.xz directly or from terminal.

First you need to unpack the archive (file.tar.gz)
tar xvfz file.tar.gzUsually there are some informationen inside the archive. Look for files that provides some information to you. Eg README.* and INSTALL.*
Hi Imran,
Some additional context for your Red Hat software experience since you mentioned you are new. Some people when they purchase Red Hat do not know that many of the software products they wish to install are packaged by Red Hat into RPM packages.
Now this is not always the case, just as Jan Gerrit Koostra mentioned, and in some cases you will have to go through an alternate means.
It may be good though to verify if the software you are interested in is already packaged by Red Hat because it will be not only easier to install, but it will be supported by Red Hat, and you'll get regular updates to whatever software package it is (again, provided that it is a software package made available by Red Hat).
That being said, I've read over this thread, and I'm curious what software package you wish to install on your Red Hat system? Let us know. Another question, are you using Red Hat version 7.2?
Let's say for example, you want to install Firefox on Red Hat. Red Hat has firefox within their software repository and you can install it easy with a yum install firefox and flash player gets installed with yum install flash-plugin. (register your system with Red Hat, have a network connection and become root first)
You can look for software packages at this link https://rhn.redhat.com/rhn/channels/software/Search.do, at that link type in "firefox" in the search box, and if your system is already registered with Red Hat, leave the option " Channels relevant to your systems" checkmarked, else select the architecture on that web page (maybe 64-bit, "x86_64") and click "search". Now if you find it at that location, you know it is provided by Red Hat, and you do not have to download it, just use "yum" commands (see link below, register your system with Red Hat & have a network connection) to install it.
You can use that link to search for other software you are interested in, and if you are using a graphical version of Red Hat, there's a couple of ways to install & manage software, either through "yum" (see link) or a graphical software package manager that most people never use, see this link for using "yum", Red Hat documentation on software management
