Oracleasm now has its own repo that can be added into RHEL

Latest response

Just a heads up.

I went to upgrade Oracleasm on a number of Oracle instances that run on RHEL 5 and Oracle has now set it up so that you can add a repo and install/remove Oracleasm packages via Yum instead of having the download them.

More information here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/server-storage/linux/downloads/rhel5-084877.html

The only tip that I've discovered is that from the cli, say if your Kernel is: 2.6.18-409.el5, then from the CLI you type the following:

yum install oracleasm-2.6.18-409.el5

I couldn't get it to work as they have listed on the website.

Thanks Chris. More info for Oracleasm on RHEL is available in https://access.redhat.com/solutions/315643

that is for RHEL6, need oracleasm url details for RHEL5 :( :(

You'd probably want to contact Oracle: if you're still on EL5 you're likely running an Oracle version that is somewhere well down the EOL/EOSL path.

We've been using the solution David provided (rhel 6 & later 7), it's rather painless, seamless. Tom makes a very salient point.

But for me - as I'm using on RHEL5, it is showing error: time out http://yum.oracle.com/repo/OracleASM/RHEL5/x86_64/repodata/repomd.xml: [Errno 12 ] Timeout: Trying other mirror. Error: Cannot retrieve repository metadata (repomd.xml) for repository: oracleas m. Please verify its path and try again
