7.2 packages

Latest response

Hello,

many libraries included in 7.2 by default are not compatible with devel packages. Some packages required an exact (not at least as recent as) version. Installing a required package often requires a long chain of package downgrades.

It is clear that beta version can not be expected to be without flaws.

If matching devel (and other dependent) packages were made available, this would make it possible to continue work at an acceptable pace. Even if some packages occasionally throw errors (which could be reported to you), this would be a better scenario.

Thank you very much!

Hi Imants,

Many -devel packages are in the Optional channel. Do you have access to the RHEL 7 Beta Optional repo?

Radek

Hello Radek,

Thank you for the hint.

I was not aware that there are so many additional repositories that are available but not enabled.

Since I do not know which repos contain which packages, is there downside to enabling all of them?

Thank you very much!

It shouldn't be a problem if you enable all the repos you have access to.

specifically, what are the "fastrack" repos?

and generally, which repos offer the most recent versions of packages?

Fastrack is a repo to which selected simple bug fixes are pushed before the next RHEL X.Y update. It allows early access to certain errata for those who don't mind updating often. For more information please see https://access.redhat.com/solutions/67210.

Fastrack and the base channel (plus Optional) usually contain the most recent versions,; however, during Beta phases, the Beta channels contain yet newer versions.

Thank you very much Radek!

This is very helpful. I wish I had asked earlier :)

You're welcome. :)
