Support for Samba 3.6 in RHEL6: will it continue?

Latest response

The official support for Samba 3.6 is ended by samba.org.
But the Samba 3.6 is the main version in RHEL6. Will it be supported by RH?

Samba4 in RHEL6 has "rc" suffix and is a bit buggy: I had conflict between nmbd and SELinux when creating socket file.
So I do not like to move to it. Another option is to move to SerNet's binaries. Possibly yes, but only like a last option.

So the question is important for me.

Responses

The Samba 4 included in RHEL 6 is not complete and is included as a dependency for other packages.

I would expect Red Hat to back port patches for Samba for the life of the Red Hat release (6.x), and in lieu of that I would expect a supported upgrade path to a newer Samba in the RHEL 6.x release.

If it's of concern, I suggest raising a request for a support statement from Red Hat support.

RHEL 6 is still in Production 1 Phase, so I wouldn't be concerned about support being dropped.
