What Exactly is ifcfg-Auto_Ethernet ??

Latest response

I have RHEL 7.0 workstation.
There is a file that is apparently generated by the NetworkManager service, the file name being ifcfg-Auto_Ethernet.
Does ANYONE know the exact purpose of this file and how the system uses it ?
Can the allocation of this file be controlled thru the NetworkManager ?

Thanks

Hi Guy,

The ifcfg-* files in /etc/sysconfig/network-scripts/ define network connections managed by NetworkManager. See Configuring a Network Interface Using ifcfg Files in the Networking Guide. The ifcfg-Auto_Ethernet file is an example (the second part of the filename is the name of the device controlled by that file).
