Remove LUN from FCP storage domain

Latest response

Hi.

Is it possible to remove a single lun from FCP storage domain?
If yes, what are the steps to do so ?

Thank you in advance for any suggestions.

Hi,
This is a known issue and we are working on tools to enable doing this without downtime from RHEV.
Did you check our knowledge base?
We have several solutions to address the issue, please check:
Is there a way to remove a LUN to shrink the size of a Storage Domain in RHEV?
Detaching fibre channel storage from RHEV hosts after deleting it from RHEV Manager
RHEV Data Center becomes non-operational when I remove a lun from Dell Compellent Array.

Hello, are there any news on the case?

Hey Marek, once a discussion is answered, additional comments may not occur. For an ongoing status update of the tools mentioned by Marina, opening a case with Red Hat Support is the best avenue.

Q. Is it possible to remove a single lun from FCP storage domain?
A. At present, No. And this is a huge oversight, particularly on the RHEV-H applicance type installation where messing with FC devices is tricky at best and not properly supported. We shouldn't really be messing with multipathd and echo'ing out to the SCSI subsystem on a blackbox hypervisor as described in the above links. Some of us have RHEV cluster spanning 30 or more hypervisors. We can't be expected to carry out this manual procedure on each individual hyp just to remove a LUN.
RHEV Engineering are working on a solution.

The answer is still no.
However, the bugzilla is still set to target the 3.6 release.

Hi Richard, any news about this one?

This is the latest I have from RH on this topic :-

"No significant changes in the bugzilla for this RFE"

"As mentioned in my last update I have escalated this feature with PM again as it is a long standing feature which customers desire, I am not sure anything can be done for RHEV4.0 but we will continue to chase."

Not good news. Sorry

I've heard rumour that this feature is dependant on the work to remove the dependency on the SPM which is being tracked for RHEV 4.0

Obviously I'll get back to you with any news as I hear it.

Thanks a lot for the update, Richard!

It is supposedly possible with RHV 4.1. But when I wanted to use the feature, I was surprised to learn that it requires the storage domain to be in maintenance mode, making it an offline operation :-(

I hope that LUN removal will soon be an online operation.
