I setup my system as an LDAP client, however, when the LDAP server is down I am unable to login to my system using the root account. What can I do so that I can still login as root even if the LDAP server is down?

To provide the ability to authenticate locally as superuser or root in the event of network failure we will need to modify the /etc/pam.d/system-auth file. The line below will provide this capability:

account sufficient /lib/security/pam_localuser.so
