What are the steps needed in order to alias a loopback device (ie the lo device)?

Aliasing the loopback device is not recommended. The results of doing so may not be what was expected or desired - the loopback device is special and does not behave like a real Ethernet interface. If an alias of the loopback device is created and is assigned an IP address, all traffic destined for the network IP address is assumed to be for the loopback device.
