Introducing the new Red Hat Enterprise Linux Beta experience

Updated -

What’s changed and why?

Previously, access to Red Hat Enterprise Linux Betas required an explicit beta subscription, which provided short-term access to beta software. After a review of this process, it was decided that this workflow could be simplified by no longer requiring an end user to explicitly request access to Red Hat Enterprise Linux Betas.

As of September 15th, 2021, Red Hat has changed the Red Hat Enterprise Linux beta subscription process so that end users no longer are required to sign up to gain access to a RHEL Beta.

What does this look like?

All Red Hat accounts will now be provided with an unlimited quantity of RH00069 - Red Hat Beta Access subscriptions.

The start date of these subscriptions will be September 15th, 2021 or in the case of an account whose first subscription was created after September 15th, 2021, the start date of the subscription will match the start date of the first subscriptions added to the account.

The end date of these subscriptions will match (and will always match) the end date of your future-most Red Hat subscription.

In this example, we can see that the account has an unlimited quantity of Red Hat Beta Access entitlements.

How do I?

Q: Download Red Hat Enterprise Linux beta installation media.

A: From the overhauled Red Hat Enterprise Beta page when the RHEL Betas are announced.

Q: Connect a Red Hat Enterprise Linux beta system?

Registering a system to Red Hat

With Simple Content Access.

After installation and logging as a root user, run the following

 subscription-manager register

Or if you are using activation keys

  subscription-manager register --activationkey

Without Simple Content Access

  subscription-manager register
subscription-manager attach --pool=$(subscription-manager list --all --available --matches "Red Hat Beta Access" --pool-only)

FAQ

Q: What happens to the Beta subscription at renewal time?

A: When subscriptions are added to an account the end/expiry date of the beta subscription is extended automatically to match the end-date of the now renewed subscriptions. This behavior is true in the following scenarios (as examples):

  • A customer renewing subscriptions
  • A partner being granted a 'not-for-resale(NFR)' subscription
  • true-ups
  • cotermination of subscriptions.

The end date of the beta subscription will always match that of the futuremost subscription on the account.

Q: Previously, it was required to request beta subscriptions. Is that still required?

A: No. This implementation makes it so that explicitly requesting beta subscriptions is no longer required.

A: This RH00069 subscription provides access to the following products:
