How do I configure LVM to stop probing my CD-ROM if I get errors about the /dev/cdrom device whenever executing the vgdisplay or vgscan commands?

When executing the vgscan or vgdisplay commands the following error might be printed along with the output of the commands:

 /dev/cdrom: read failed after 0 of 4096 at 0: Input/output error
  --- Volume group ---
  VG Name           ...
