x11 Forwarding fails with error: Failed to allocate internet-domain X11 display socket
Issue
- When attempting to connect to a server via ssh and forward or tunnel X windows protocol, the command fails with the following error appearing in
/var/log/secure:
Jun 23 11:50:18 hostname.localdomain sshd[1811]: error: Failed to allocate internet-domain X11 display socket.
The connection on the client end is abruptly closed with no diagnostic output being displayed.
- This occurs even while X11Forwarding is correctly set in /etc/ssh/sshd_config on the remote machine:
X11Forwarding yes
