fence_ipmilan fails with 'Chassis power = Unknown' error messages on IBM Flex Systems

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We have configured a two node cluster with IBM Flex Systems and configured fence_ipmilan as fence agent, but the fence agent is failing to fence/reboot the node. Also, the power status check using fence_ipmilan command fails with below error messages:

    [root@node1 ~]# fence_ipmilan -a 192.168.0,10 -l userid -p password -o status
Getting status of IPMI:192.168.0,10...Chassis power = Unknown
Failed
[root@node1 ~]# fence_ipmilan -a 192.168.0,10 -l userid -p password -o status -P
Getting status of IPMI:192.168.0,10...Chassis power = Unknown
Failed

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux Server 5 & 6 (with the High Availability or Resilient Storage Add Ons)
  • IBM Flex System with IMM module
  • fence_ipmilan as fence agent
