Unable to mount samba shares from Windows Server 2012r2

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • We have a RHEL server that mounts a CIFS share.
  • We recently migrated the target server from Windows Server 2003 to Windows Server 2012r2.
  • After the migration, attempting to mount the share results in the following:
# mount -t cifs -o username=xxxxx@xxxx.org,password=******* //xxxxj.org/home /home/winhometest
mount error(112): Host is down
Refer to the mount.cifs(8) manual page (e.g. man mount.cifs)

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6.5
  • Windows 2012 Server r2
