Xvnc and Xspice very slow on RHEL7

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • I have a RHEL7 VMWare VM and try to use it as a virtual desktop. Working with VNC or spice is very, very slow.
  • gnome-shell consumes over 100% of the CPU
  • This issue does not occur with RHEL 6
  • I upgraded to the newest VMWare tools without improving this issue, though I noticed that the tools didn't add a X driver

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux 7.0
  • Gnome 3
  • VMWare Hypervisor
