Xvnc and Xspice very slow on RHEL7

Issue

I have a RHEL7 VMWare VM and try to use it as a virtual desktop. Working with VNC or spice is very, very slow.
gnome-shell consumes over 100% of the CPU
This issue does not occur with RHEL 6
I upgraded to the newest VMWare tools without improving this issue, though I noticed that the tools didn't add a X driver
