During system shutdown or reboot I see iscsi "detected conn error" messages and the shutdown hangs or delays in RHEL 5 or 6

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • When I reboot a RHEL 6 server it appears to hang forever after:
Stopping cgconfig service [OK]
  • When I shutdown a system using LVM on top of iSCSI I get connection errors and the shutdown hangs:

Mar 30 09:29:04 hostname1 kernel: connection3:0: detected conn error (1020)
Mar 30 09:29:04 hostname1 kernel: connection12:0: detected conn error (1020)

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 5 or 6
  • lvm2 volume groups utilizing iSCSI LUNs
