How to enable kdump in RHEL 6.5 for IBM X6 Compute Node Family

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6.5
  • X3950 X6 and Flex Systems

Issue

  • kdump does not work by default in RHEL 6.5 on IBM X6 Compute Node Family. Changes are needed to enable kdump to work correctly on this server.

Resolution

  • Update the RHEL 6.5 kernel to kernel-2.6.32-431.20.3.el6 or newer.
  • Edit the "/etc/sysconfig/kdump"
  • Change nr_cpus=1 to nr_cpus=4
    Then add below this:
    disable_cpu_apicid=0
    KDUMP_COMMANDLINE_APPEND=
  • Restart kdump
