Changing your own password is difficult from the RHOS 5 Dashboard

Solution Unverified - Updated -

Issue

  • It appears that there is no way of changing your own password in the Red Hat OpenStack Dashboard GUI. You can change your own password using the "keystone password-update" command, but when you do that when you have an active
session to the web Dashboard, the session will be invalidated and error message is displayed until you manually remove the session cookie from the browser.
  • When the password has been changed, it would be a better UX to forward the user to the login page for logging in with the new password. The user should not be expected to mess with browser cookies (or at least the error message should have clear instructions that it is needed). Furthermore, I feel the GUI should have an easy to use option for changing the password without using GUI tools.
  • The upstream/RDO version of Horizon already have the Change Password option next to the user settings.

Environment

  • RHOS-5 (icehouse) BETA version.
