Nova compute nodes go into XXX state

Issue

  • After a week or two, nova compute nodes stop responding. When running nova-manage service-list the following is seen for them.
[root@ example-1 ~(keystone_admin|Openstack)]# nova-manage service list | grep compute
nova-compute      compute-1.example.com nova             enabled    XXX   2014-06-03 13:57:15
nova-compute      compute-2.example.com nova             enabled    XXX   2014-06-03 13:57:19
nova-compute      compute-3.example.com nova             enabled    XXX   2014-06-03 13:57:15
