'grep -v -f' is slower to run on RHEL 6 than on RHEL 5

Issue

  • The time it takes to run grep -f somefile somefile.different on RHEL 6 & 7.0 is much greater than the same command on the same files on RHEL 5

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6
    • grep-2.6.3-6.el6 (or earlier)
  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 7
    • grep-2.16-1.el7 (or earlier)
