Logrotate runs for a long time or appears to hang

Issue

  • Running /usr/sbin/logrotate -d /etc/logrotate.conf in a shell shows the output
reading config file /etc/logrotate.conf
reading config info for /var/log/wtmp
reading config info for /var/log/btmp
  • Afterwards, nothing will happen for hours.
  • Logrotate caused CPU starvation.
