iptables is generating too much information

iptables is generating too much information and it is filling up /var

The iptables logs are being directed to
/var/log/iptables.logand our problem is that iptables is too chatty and generates huge amount of logs.We would like to be able to manage its logs properly.How should we go about accomplishing this task.
