IP address is getting changed on execution of vconfig to add a new VLAN in Red Hat Enterprise Linux

Solution Verified - Updated -

Issue

  • When adding a VLAN tag to an alias interface eth1:1, the IP address of this alias interface is changed to the default value specified in the ifcfg-eth1:1 configuration file instead of the desired, manually set IP address.
  • Alias/child/slave interface is offlined when adding VLAN tag to physical/parent/master interface when HOTPLUG=no is set on the alias interface.

This occurs when using either vonfig or ip link to add a VLAN tag.

Environment

  • Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) 6
  • RHEL 6.4
  • initscripts-9.03.38-1.el6_4.3.x86_64
